![]() Right now all I do is open finder, click Network and authenticate to DataStation. I wonder if changing the way the MacMini connects to the Synology matters from a settings approach. Now both appliances are attached to the same 24u server rack's switch. In my new setup the files are on the Synology while the server application is on the Mac mini. Theory: In my old Dell Optiplex the files were inside of the same computer that was serving the files. If I wait roughly 60 seconds I can press play and it will continue playback. \"Can't Continue playback because the connection with your server was lost\" error message Therefore the MacMini will connect to the Synology to fetch the media file when a client app requests playback.Īll this being said: I have noticed error messages from the Plex client app that I never got when using the old Dell Optiplex. The whole house is wired with ethernet ports everywhere and WiFi is abundant.Ĭondition: I do not want to use the Synology as the host of Plex Media Server app, I want to use the Apple Mac mini. Additionally, both the Mac mini and the Synology are on ethernet connections. I share this to give you an idea of how busy (not really) the NAS will be. The other 2 bays are housing cold data that will barely ever be used. I configured the 2 bays to be a RAID 0 (for now). ![]() Useful Info: The Synology has 16TB total between all 4 bays but for various reasons I have decided to issue only 2 of the bays to Plex stuff. In its place I now have 2 pieces of equipment. These links will take you to some of the products mentioned in today's video. It performed marvelously for years without issue but is due for an upgrade since media files are bigger and the poor CPU can't keep up any more. This description contains links to Amazon. It did everything for me in hosting files and serving media. I am finally retiring my old Dell Optiplex 745 from being my Plex Media Server. ![]() Please go to the relevant subreddits and support forums, for example: Build help and build shares posts go in their respective megathreads ![]() No referral / affiliate links, personal voting / campaigning / funding, or selling posts Welcome to /r/Plex, a subreddit dedicated to Plex, the media server/client solution for enjoying your media!
